Operasia

Since its inception in 2006, OperAsia (OA) has established itself as a prominent vocal arts company. The company was founded and helmed by Singapore renowned soprano, Dr Wong Su Sun. Under her leadership, OperAsia won The Best Organization Award and The Young Singers’ prizes at The Asia Youth Arts Festival in South Korea in the same year.

Over the years, the events organized by OA went beyond choral vocal workshops, musical productions and lectures at university, colleges and schools. OA also conducts summer creative choral institutes for overseas school groups, offers consultation services and facilitates links between schools and arts organizations across Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and China.

OA’s vision is to be a nurturing ground that inspires people to love and to participate in music making not just the traditional Western classical styles but reinventing and developing Asian vocal arts that is representative of Asians in the 21st century.

In 2013, OperAsia will launch two new initiatives. The first: A Celebration of Classroom Music Festival, commemorates the centenary celebration of both Benjamin Britten (UK composer) and Wang Luo Bin (China composer). The second involves recompiling, developing and promoting new and unknown children songs by Singapore composers.
